Metabolism Calculator For Women
On this page you will find information about your basal metabolism.
Below is a calculator that will help you to find your personal
metabolic rate. Knowing your individual metabolic rate is will help
you to create a weight-loss program that fits you. Your basal metabolic
rate is the number of calories required per day to keep heart, lungs,
muscles and all other normal body systems functioning.
The
formula that is used on this page was developed a few years ago. It is
known as the Harris-Benedict formula. It has been used by health and
fitness specialist for years now. It is considered the best way to
calculate your basal metabolism without taking a Metabolic Rate Test.

Instructions:
To get the best results make sure to
enter all information. If you happen to be exactly 5 feet or 6 feet tall,
make sure to put a 0 in the inches box. It is important to be as precise
as you can! Last don't forget to select a daily activity level and click
on the Calculate button.
Please understand that this formula below will give you a ballpark numbers. It is still advised that you take
this test using the machines desgined for this (Trigger Point now offers these at our Studio). Metabolic Rate Tests are typically only offered at hospitals and clinics (and the cost to take it was hundreds of dollars)...Yes - we now have equipment right here at Trigger Point Training read our Metabolic Testing Brochure - PDF .
*This calculator will also show
your target heartbeat range and maximum heartbeat rate. The rate is the
same for males and females.
Why does your metabolism change?
What are some of the factors that bring these changes about?
The number one factor in the cause of the change of a
person's metabolic rate is the change in their muscle to fat ratio. As a
person grows older, (this is especially true for women) they lose muscle
and gain fat. Many people have complained to me that, even though they eat
the same as they always have, but still noticed that they gain weight
easier each year. The causes this somewhat perplexing phenomenon - In
short the loss of muscle results in a gain of fat!
Below is condensed list the main causes in the shift in our metabolism.
Loss of muscle mass (primary)
Poor dietary choices
Stress
Hormonal changes
Pregnancy
Natural aging process
Inactivity
Lack of "proper exercise"
The good news is - this process can
be reversed. It does not take years to accomplish your goals.
Gain MUSCLE, Lose FAT and CHANGE YOUR METABOLISM
Yes, it may sound simple but it is true. By reversing the fat
muscle ratio you can change your metabolism. You not only will lose weight
and look and feel younger too.
Everyone should know how many calories they consume each day. Also the amount of calories you need is directly tied to you activity level. In short start counting calories of everything you eat.
Real life Example: A 5'6 inch 150 pound female wants to lose 10 pounds in 5 weeks. She exercise 2 days per week burning about 300 calories per day per workout (moderate) Her total caloric input is 2150 to maintain her current weight, which hasn't changed despite her conscious effort to watch what she ate, and to exercise. To lose 10 pounds in 5 weeks, she must cut/burn 1000 per day. Over 7 days that is 7,000 calories or 2 pound weight loss. For 5 weeks, that is 10 pounds... It sounds impossible but it is not.
How she did it???
She cuts 400-500 calories from her daily eating plan. She simply cuts those "sodas", and salad dressings (for low fat type)... She then increases her activity level(taking the stairs, walking at lunch and after dinner, bicycling or gardening) burning an additional 400 calories per day. ( this totaling 800-900 calories per day in weight loss). Thus over a 7 day period she has cut (lost) 6,300 calories. Furthermore, she burned an additional 500-700 calories per week by working out (strength training 2 times a week) She eats between meals (low calorie foods). She also starts a vitamin and suppliment regimen. If she stays disciplined, she will reach her goal.
Simply replacing the "sugary soda" for water or , will cause you to lose weight.
The first thing to cut (soad pop)
You'll find about 400 calories in a 32-ounce "extra-large" soda pop, at most restaurants and fast food drive-thrus.. And this alone comprises nearly a quarter of what the average adult woman needs in a whole day. It is "liquid candy", and should be treated as such.
A few years ago Dr. David Ludwig, a Harvard endocrinologist published a paper in the Lancet (widely cited by obesity researchers), and he found that sweetened drinks are the only specific food that clinical research showed was " directly linked to weight gain".
What about starvation diets???
In contrast some people believe that starving themselves is the best way to lose weight. THEY ARE WRONG! The body will start to burn or cannibalize your muscle tissue for fuel and hold onto the fat, thus defeating the whole purpose of dieting... At first this starving will seems be working and indeed you will lose weight if you step on the scale, but you are losing muscle and not fat. You will end up in worse shape. Thus any successful weight loss program must include exercise!!!
Taking a Metabolic Rate Test the best way to start!
The numbers above are ballpark figures (which are better than nothing) but they can still be off by 100-200 calories.
The an actual metabolic test will show your exact resting metabolic rate; the exact number of calories your body need to function - is by far the best!!! In the past, only doctors, hospitals and pricy weight loss clinics have offered this to their patients and clients (costing hundreds of dollars per test) We now off this at Trigger Point to our clients for a minimal fee. With these results we can then tailor an eating plan that is fit to your individual needs. It will also show how much can be safely cut form your daily caloric intake so you can lose weight.
The answer is to find your metabolic rate, set a diet and exercise program and stick with it!!!!
